In October of 1999, my husband and I made the decision to move our family to Rockford, IL. We had heard about the family-oriented community in Rockford, and felt it would be a good fit. My husband became the assistant coach of the Ice Hogs, and our move sparked my interest to enter the business world as well. I began as a Centre Director for Jenny Craig, and then did outside sales for the Rockford Conventions and Visitors Bureau. I finally found my niche when I became a health insurance agent for Midwest Financial Group. All of these careers gave me a strong background in business, but more importantly in active listening and customer service. It is my strong belief that you must understand the clients needs before suggesting a solution.

In July of 2006, Burfoot Insurance Agency, Inc. was established. By incorporating my philosophy of active listening and customer service into the manifesto of BIA, I created a business that would cater to the customers needs. It is our responsibility to find a good fit between customers and products, and we do this through comprehensive research of current and new options.

It is my practice to get involved in the complete process. Typically, I explain options in common terms so the employer, individual, or senior can choose the appropriate program. This helps me understand what benefits are significant to the purchaser. It always amazes me how many small employers do not know their options. I always offer to be present while the employees are filling out applications, which takes some of the burden off the benefits administrator. Once the policy has been issued, I offer to hold an employee meeting to explain their new plan. In addition, the employees have my phone number to contact me after the policy has been sold. By putting in this extra effort, I gain a better understanding of the needs of the employer and the employee.
